New Order - Rennes - 11 Dec 1985 - flac

Excellent sound quality from this late 1985 gig.

Not quite my cup of tea, but State of the Nation is a pretty cool pop song.

Another concert that might as well have been recorded in a studio.

  1. New Order
    1985/12-11 Salle Villar, Maison De La Culture, Rennes, France

    Source: ATR-STASH mixer
    Lineage: SBD (ATR-STASH box-o-tapes) --> ??? --> FLAC via Sam (lammah) -->
    --> SoundForge (to fix DC offset and remove old SBEs) --> CD Wave (re-tracksplitting) -->
    --> FLAC --> you

    Per Sam, the actual lineage for where I have "???" is most likely thus:
    SBD (band's CASS(0) or CASS(1) copy thereof) --> CDR --> CDR --> CDR --> FLAC --> ... (detailed above)

    NOTE - This differs slightly from the original seed of this gig. Some glitches were corrected,
    and there were old SBE's (not detectable by shntool - ugh!) that I had to manually remove. I also
    fixed up the levels a bit. In all, it's a great improvement on the original seed (located here:

    The exact fixes are detailed in this post here (also read the one above it for more info):

    Additionally, this version contains a *FIXED* "Temptation" - the original seed's version was marred
    by nearly 90 seconds of the most gawdawful diginoise, which best we can tell goes back all the way to
    CDR1, so it was unlikely we could get a fix from the original source. Thanks goes to Marek for putting
    in the effort to fix it! You can hear a sample of his work here:

    And finally, some levels issues were fixed, DC offset absolutely corrected, and just generally made to
    be the definitive version of this gig.

    It's strongly suggested you download this even if you pulled the original down earlier.

  2. Notes:

    Another glorious SBD recording of mid-80s New Order, this time from Rennes, France.
    Lineage is the same stash-o-soundboards from (most likely) Hooky's Suite 16 recording studio,
    liberated by Brian Whittaker (Revenge touring bassist) via eBay, but previous to selling
    copied amongst the NO trading community in the UK.

    From a post by OldMonkey on STG:
    "A box of mixing desk tapes was found in a rehearsal studio used by Peter Hook.
    They were advertised on E-bay by Brian Whittaker, former Revenge live guitarist.
    David Sultan of the website "World in Motion" paid over Ј500 to win the auction.
    Before they were sent to David though, they were copied amongst the Manchester
    bootlegging fraternity, and are now widely available in the UK and wider.
    Coincidentally (or otherwise, and this is where it gets good), the majority of
    the shows in this box were the complete gigs from the tracks used on the live
    disc of Retro (plus quite a few other gigs). It appears as though Hooky meant
    for them to find their way to the bootleg hardcore......."

    This thing sounds just as phenomenal as all the other ATR/STASH soundboards posted recently.

    Notable quotables...

    Before "This Time Of Night":
    BS: "I don't speak fucking French you daft bastards...parlez francais... I mean anglais...
    "Parlez anglais bastaros."

    Lyric changes in "This Time Of Night":
    "I've gotten used to your big fat cock"
    "The marks they'll never show / They're damned like you they never fucking know
    "Now you must open your heart / Let it bleed and tear apart
    "You know the price of shame / Turn your back cuz you're not too sane"

    Lyric change in "Subculture":
    "In the end you will submit, it's got to hurt your PUSSY a little bit."

    Lyric change in "As It Is When It Was":
    "I'm not grown up, and I am not a boy / This cock of mine is not a toy"
