Joy Division - The Drone - 1979 - flac

Track from the audio bootleg, HATYM.
Bought the video for a whopping 17.95 pounds back in 1984.

Even today, the "dance" in the first clip from Manchester is truly disturbing.

But the culmination of the video, with the legendary "drone", marks for me their live pinnacle.

Slowed down, much louder version: whack up the volume all the way and enjoy.....

Joy Division - Surprise - 1979 - 320kb

A song that I heard by chance today. Terrible quality which fails to disguise the singer singing his heart out.  The beauty of Quasimodo? Too good for words!

Ein Track, den ich heute per Zufall zuhörte. Schreckliche Qualität, aber sehr bewegende Sache - einfach fantastisch!

Это песня, которую я сегодня случайно прослушал! Красиво и трогательно! Сердечного прослушивания!!

Joy Division - Ajanta Derby - 19 Apr 1980 - 320kb

Different version to the flac concert below. Part of the bootleg "A Journey that Leads to the Sun". Great quality, H&S is a real stomper!

New Order - Rochdale - 19 Dec 1980 - 310kb

This is about as cool as New Order get.

Concert in an empty-sounding hall, sound problems, Bernard Sumner prattling.
In a Lonely Place splutters in rather gloriously, with eight songs following.
Dreams Never End demonstrates why Peter Hook did well to stick to bass guitar...
One or two of the songs here really hit the g-spot: the group's own sound is just starting to become audible.

Really raw and somehow as honest as anything out there.
Highly recommended!

New Order - Heaven Soundcheck - 9 Feb 1981 - 128kb

Nine months after "Stunde null", New Order warm up for a Heaven concert with six Joy Division songs, only one of which (Ceremony) was then played at the concert. But which were the other five?

Joy Division - Ajanta Derby - 19 Apr 1980 - flac

"The Ajanta concert was opened by XL5. After a long set, Joy Division went on to jam with Section 25, the jam being based on the Section 25 single FAC 18: Girls Don't Count, which had been produced by Ian Curtis and Rob Gretton. Ian's health was apparently not very good during this period and, as one observer at Derby recalled, "Ian Curtis was very distraught and kept sighing and kept having short blackouts""

Songs performed:
1. Dead Souls
2. Wilderness
3. Digital
4. Insight
5. Passover
6. Heart And Soul
7. Isolation
8. These Days
9. Transmission
10 She's Lost Control
11 Colony

Joy Division - Moonlight - 3 April 1980 - flac

"They played a lot better than the night before,
and Martin Townsend wrote:
"This is a difficult period for Joy Division; they
can ignore or encourage their popularity, and
disappear both ways.""

New Order - Decades

Classic Joy Division song played only very rarely by the Order.
Two versions from a 1984 concert in London, another one from Paradiso three days later.
Another is a soundcheck from Heaven in 1981.
A final version is of unknown origin.

"Yes it's a fabulous story, the story of the rebuilding of a city that begins with them, the story of a tragic suicide, a moral story, and a cultural academic intellectual aesthetic story, but the heart of it is only here because they wrote great songs and GREAT SONGS NEVER DIE!" (Tony Wilson)

New Order - The Squat - 25 Oct 1980 - 192kb

Raw, rough bootleg of a still vulnerable-sounding band. Partly poor, partly godly. In a Lonely Place is divine! Real pop music - where did it all go wrong?

Listing:
1. In a Lonely Place
2. Dreams Never End
3. Truth
4. Mesh
5. Cries & Whispers
6. Procession
7. Ceremony

Joy Division - Moonlight Club - 2 April 1980 - 320kb

This was the first gig of 4 in 3 days!!
Section 25 played support, but Joy Division didn't
feel the inspiration and played a poor set.

Joy Division - Decades - Video Clip - 62 mb

First attempt at a video clip...

The soundcheck version of Decades from Birmingham.

The video material comes from a film on Ingushetia made in 1992.

The clip contains images of brutality against civilians.

New Order - RFH (Decades) - 14 May 1984 - 192kb

New Order in 1984, well on the way to becoming a mainstream band.

But playing their new songs, they suddenly bring "Decades" back to life.

The vocals hardly compare, the trademark Bernard Sumner "whoop" has to be there, but nonetheless the song has huge emotive power.

Joy Division - Malvern - 5 April 1980 - flac

"I met the band backstage. They were all very polite and friendly, apart from Hooky, who was being an arse. The rest of the band were sat talking, along with members of the support act, Section 25 and a couple of people I didn't recognise. Ian was sat on his own. He seemed in good spirits, though looked tired and had a painful-looking shaving rash under his chin. He talked enthusiastically about the "new songs" and actually thanked me (but I don't know what for!) He spoke in a soft, high-pitched voice, which surprised me. Fond memories indeed!"

Concert finishes with glorious jam Girls Don't Count.

Parts: one, two, three, four

Joy Division - Birmingham - 2 May 1980 - Soundcheck - flac

Never officially released versions of:

Ceremony
Decades

Both songs with some hiss, the latter as grim as anything they ever played!

Recorded a few hours before the last concert.

The adventure is over......

Joy Division - Bournemouth - 2 Nov 1979 - 128kb

"I went to the Bournemouth Winter Gardens (and the High Wycombe) Gig.

My memories of the Bournemouth gig are not happy ones,it all started well with Ian proforming well and doing his usual 'plugged into the mains' dance but as the show progressed Ians singing became increasingly incoherent, with periods that he was staring glazed and very pale into middle distance.

Then towards the end during another frenzied dance he keeled over backwards into the drum kit and was carried off.........end of show!."
