  2. Wow, this is a seriously good gig! I've been rather presumptuous & linked to it over at my blog (hope that's OK) - have a peek & let me know what you think. Many thanks for posting...

  3. Also (1 year later!): I don't suppose you've come across a recording of N.O. live at Nottingham Palais, circa 1984/5 have you? It was one of the very first gigs I went to, a rather pivotal evening for me in retrospect (!), & I'd dearly love to hear it again. Let me know if you can help... (thanks) x

  4. Odd. I have just unearthed a 1st gen copy of my audience tape of this gig. On my version, Doubts Even Here has an extra opening bar before Hooky comes in with the vocal.

Haven't got round to comparing the rest yet, but overall quality (of mine) seems a deal better.

It was a great gig. Short but sweet. We were lucky it was winter and could happily wear our oh so fashionable greatcoats, without which it would've been impossible to covertly lug in the behemoth of a Sony recorder + mics we had. We'd borrowed the thing but hadn't quite learnt how to use it properly and unfortunately had the limiter & auto levels on iirc. Doesn't detract, though.

I took a great roll of HP5 B&W pics of the gig on my old Spotmatic but these were sadly lost many years ago.

  6. Yes, when get round to digging up a cassette deck; I doubt if I can easily get a line out of the one in my car...

  7. OK, I know why I have a few extra bars - the version of Doubts Even Here you have is missing about 15 secs of the intro, just where the synth comes in.

Looking at the mp3 from this site, it seems heavily compressed; I see it's a "remastered" version - it's typical for today's "mastering" that folks go heavy on the limiters and lose crucial dynamics. Do you know where I can find a cleaner (pre-mastered) copy? It'd be great to bring the two recordings together as you can almost always pull out more information with two sources.

My version appears to have much better dynamics generally, with lots of top and bottom end. But the mp3 here has a good mid; especially around the vocals and snares.

I'll spend some time on this and put a decent flac out eventually.

  9. Actually, I have a flac version of this concert. Can you send me your email address - I would send you a song and you can decide if it is as good as your version, or better, or worse.
